August Seasonal Surprises
Welcome to August.
While most people associate August with the end of Summer, it also
brings an assortment of seasonal produce.
August brings us fruits like Avocados, Blackberries,
Blueberries, Peaches, Raspberries and Tomatoes.
We also get vegetables like Bell Peppers, Broccoli, Corn, Cucumbers,
Green Onions and Spinach. Herbs like
Cilantro and Dill make their seasonal appearance as well.
Taking these seasonal items into consideration, here are few
menu ideas for your next gathering.
- · Fruit Salsa with Cinnamon Pita Chips – Blackberries, Blueberries, Peaches and Raspberries lightly blended together with a little sugar. Serve with Cinnamon Pita Chips on the side.
- · August Sangria – Start with a Moscato like Barefoot, then add the seasonal fruits, Sprite and Triple Sec. Blend together and refrigerate for at least 3 hours or overnight for best results.
- · Sweet Corn & Tomato Salsa – Sweet Corn, Tomatoes, Green Pepper, Red Onions and Green Onions tossed with Lime Juice, Oil & Vinegar, and Black Pepper. Served with Tortilla Chips.
- · Chunky Guacamole – Avocados, Lime Juice, Red Onion, Garlic and Cilantro blended together. This is the basic version. Want to spice it up? Add chopped Jalapenos or Serrano Chilies. Serve with Tortilla Chips, with a vegetable tray or as a topping to your burgers.
- · Spinach Broccoli Salad with Cucumber Avocado Dressing – The salad consists of Spinach, Broccoli, Carrots, Water Chestnuts and Sunflower Seeds. The dressing is a blend of Cucumber, Avocado, Green Onions, Garlic, Dill and Honey. Top with Grilled Chicken for a complete meal in a bowl.

Baby Shower Ideas
I have done many baby showers from planning to catering. My
best piece of advice is to keep the mom-to-be involved. I do not mean she
needs to plan the shower herself by any means. Her comfort level with
foods and games. I have found that not all moms want the traditional
shower games. When picking the theme for
the event, the gender of the child is not the only factor. Think about
the parents as well and what they like. Don't forget to think about the
season/time of year.
